August auction highlights: Top 5 cars we sold last month
Friday, 04 September 2026 | James Coleman
It's cliched to say "August was a big month", because we could say that about every month. But it really was.
Our special "Everything Holden" auction wrapped early in the month, on 5 August, but such were the results, they held their head high even as the rest of the month's premium and prestige car auctions unfolded. These were led by two twin-turbo BMW M Competition models and equally mighty V8-powered Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S.
Here's the rundown:

BMW X3 M Competition - our best sales result for August 2026.
1. 2022 BMW X3 M Competition (F97 LCI)
$84,550 (+ 6.5% buyer's premium) | Closed 26 August
Taking top honors for August, this F97 LCI X3 M Competition represents the final iteration of BMW's straight-six performance SUV line. Powered by the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre S58 inline-six - delivering 375kW and 650Nm through an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive system - it blends legitimate track engineering with daily usability.
Showing 49,109km with a complete service history, this example featured aggressive carbon exterior styling, 21-inch wheels, black Merino leather, laser headlights, and a Bowers & Wilkins-level feature suite.
Buyer notes: Fitted with catless downpipes, a tuned gearbox feel, noticeable intake audio on acceleration, and a tinted windscreen.

The 1973 Monaro was given all the GTS styling hallmarks.
2. 1973 Holden HQ Monaro LS (GTS Tribute)
$77,050 (+ 7.5% buyer's premium) | Closed 5 August
The HQ Monaro remains a posterboy of Australian motoring history. Originally leaving the factory as a 308ci V8 "Luxury Sport" model, this long-time Canberra-based car underwent a comprehensive restoration to transform it into a modern GTS tribute.
Under the bonnet, it ran a Gen-3 LS1 5.7-litre V8 paired with a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission, power steering, electronic fuel injection, a 3.08 rear diff, and rear disc brakes. Finished in bright yellow with GTS black striping over a cream interior, it offered those classic lines with ... a little more by way of modern reliability.
Buyer Notes: A/C unit was fitted but unplumbed; oil and temperature gauges disconnected; conversion was unengineered; original build tags were included separately.
3. 2020 BMW X5 M Competition
$72,350 (+ 6.5% buyer's premium) | Closed 19 August
Slotted at the top of BMW’s SUV hierarchy, the X5 M Competition pushes supercar-tier outputs from its S63 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, outputting 460kW and 750Nm for a 0–100km/h sprint of 3.8 seconds.
This heavily optioned example logged 123,228 km with on-board BMW logbook history and NSW registration through to November 2026. Key specifications included the Sky Lounge illuminated panoramic roof, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound, rear seat entertainment, massaging seats, and the factory Carbon exterior and interior packages.

2018 Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S.
4. 2018 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S AWD
$52,350 (+ 12.5% buyer's premium) | Closed 27 August
Whatever your thoughts on coupe SUVs, this one was impressive. The GLC 63 S swapped out older naturally aspirated architecture for a hand-built 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 375kW, while the 'S' bit added active dynamic mounts, a mechanical rear-locking differential, AMG Ride Control, and Race Mode over the standard model.
Finished in Diamond White Metallic over black Nappa leather, this 112,810km example came equipped with factory ceramic brakes with red calipers, 21-inch AMG alloys, a Burmester 13-speaker sound system, and a complete suite of active driver assistance tech.

The Torana - alongside several of our other Everything Holden listings.
5. 1974 Holden LH Torana SL/R 5000 Tribute
$52,050 (+ 10% buyer's premium) | Closed 5 August
Yes, we know - it wasn't an actual SL/R 5000.
But this 1974 Torana combined period-correct styling - Chrome Yellow bodywork, flares, ducktail spoiler, and black accents (done by Classic Auto Refinishing in Newcastle) - with a refreshed 5.0-litre 308 V8, rebuilt M21 four-speed manual and Salisbury rear end.
Inside, it featured Recaro front buckets, custom door trims, SAAS wheel, integrated console gauges, and roof lining literally inspired by a Roulette table. We don't know why either.
Read more about its story here - including the secret rule Holden had for buyers of the Torana SL/R 5000 here.
Buyer Notes: Started life as a factory six-cylinder model; exhibited an idle misfire requiring minor tuning.
