Restored and immaculately presented ex-Singapore Military 2.4L diesel 240GD 'Wolf' G-Wagon

The Mercedes-Benz 240GD is a diesel powered variant of the W460G class that was introduced for the 1980 model year. The 240 GD was offered in both short and long wheelbases, which included wagon, convertible, and panel van body styles. Alongside the civilian 240GD, sparsely equipped military spec versions known as the W461 were also built. These military variants are often referred to as "Wolf." The 240GD was powered by Mercedes' OM616 D24 engine, which was a 2.4L diesel inline four that generated a claimed 72hp and 101 lb ft of torque. Drive is sent from the engine to all four wheels via a 4 speed manual transmission. Production of the Mercedes-Benz 240GD ended in 1991.

This particular example was procured by an Australian Ex Pat working in Singapore during the Singapore Armed Services recent modernisation efforts. It was hand-picked from the Reserve Fleet which although well maintained by the Army, saw no active duty. It was recently resprayed and serviced by StyTech Auto Workshop in Singapore and then imported to Australia. It is registered with historic plates through Club Registration with Mercedes-Benz of New South Wales and is currently the only military derived vehicle amongst its membership.

The vehicle was restored in full with rubbers and plastic parts replaced with new OEM parts sourced from Mercedes Benz directly, and the car was repainted from top to bottom, inside and out in Matt Olive Green. It is one of 2 vehicles that were purchased and restored.

It has been registered under NSW vintage car scheme given it complies with the age requirements. This means that the care can be registered for less than $100/year and includes 3rd party insurance. This is far less expensive than the cost of registering a non-vintage vehicle, which is one of the privileges attributed to vintage classification.
