The S-Type was a major redevelopment of the Mark 2, giving buyers a more luxurious version of the Mark 2, and introduced IRS suspension, at a lower price point than the Mark X. When the S-Type was released in 1963 the Mark 2, despite its age, was still a strong seller, but the Mark X was struggling in sales, so all 3 of these models were offered. The 420 was developed in 1966 to replace the S-Type, but due to the demand for the S-Type still, it would remain in production until 1968 with a total of 24,993 produced, of which only 9,928 were 3.4's.
This well presented and ready to enjoy S-Type 3.4 has been converted to a more powerful but period engine 4.2-litre twin-carb inline-six backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission. This example is also finished in an ideal colour scheme of a white exterior with a complete red with woodgrain interior and has traveled an indicated 94,857 miles since new. This S-Type is appealing from all angles and features a few minor upgrades including an aftermarket cruise control system (untested) and an aftermarket head unit.
