Regarded as one of the most stylish and influential vehicles in history the DS Series was launched in 1955 and would be produced for 20 years until 1975 with several updates. The car was advanced for its time including a hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension system, with hydraulics also controlling the clutch, transmission, brakes and power steering. In 1969 the D Special was introduced as a new model, equipped with a 1985cc engine developing 91 horsepower at 5500 rpm, rising to 98 horsepower in 1971. Both the D Special and Super then received an even more powerful 108 bhp engine in 1972 and remained in production until the end of 1975. The D Special had a revised and more simple interior with fewer complex systems overall to go wrong and it remains as the more affordable alternative to the DS whilst still boasting the timeless styling.
This rare Australian delivered Citroen D Special would make a great piece for restoration or even hard to find spares. The car appears complete with the interior actually presenting in quite decent shape for its age still. The car was stored for a long period of time with the exterior presentation being reflective of this. Please ensure you inspect prior to bidding so the vehicle meets your expectations as this is a project car.
