HSV was a joint venture between Tom Walkinshaw and Holden and was introduced in 1987 as the performance vehicle sector of Holden, after controversies around the HDT Director and Energy Polarizer from Peter Brock's HDT vehicle sector. In 1993 the significantly redesigned VR Senator was released that features more luxurious rear seating, a unique body kit for the Senator to produce a sleeker and more aggressive stance along with a 185kw version of the 5.0L V8 engine. Additionally a new suspension was also developed known as the touring package which aimed to provide more capable handling as well as a smoother ride.
