Replacing the not-so-well received HD model which had replaced the legendary EH Holden, the new HR Holden model range was released in April 1966. Gone were the controversial semi-circle ‘kidney’ scoops at the front edge of the HD’s mudguards which were deemed dangerous to pedestrians and instead, the smoother HR featured a more stylish front finish including a revised grille, along with a reworked roofline and larger rear window (on the sedans), revised rear lights (on sedans and wagons) and changes to almost all exterior body panels.The General’s new HR range consisted of the Standard, Special and Premier level sedans and wagons, plus the HR panel van and utility commercial vehicles. A total of 252,352 were produced up to January 1968, when the HR was replaced by the new Holden HK series.
This HR Special Wagon is suitable for spares or repair. The body has some rust primarily in the lower areas and sills and the engine and gearbox have been removed. A period spoiler and roofrack is fitted and the wind down rear window still functions.
