This is an early “Phase 1” example of the iconic Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII BJ8, one of the rarest iterations of the “Big Healey,” finished in striking gloss black with a well paired red interior. Built in 1964, it features the 2,912 cc straight-six engine fed by twin SU HD8 carburettors, delivering about 150 bhp, paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. As a Phase 1 car, it retains the slimmer bodywork, smaller single front sidelights and compact rear lamps, styling cues that make it a highly desirable example for Healey connoisseurs.With a classic 2+2 seating, wind-up windows, walnut-veneered dash and servo-assisted braking, this car blends performance with refinement in a way that few British roadsters of the era do. Whether for touring, display or enthusiast driving, this Healey offers rarity, character and classic 1960s British sports car prestige.
The Healey was purchased by a prominent Canberra dealer and vendor in 1987 in Chicago USA (sale document and photos in images, a RHD example), where the car remained until 1997 when the car would be brought over to Canberra. The car has remained in the area since by the vendor who also also conducted an extensive full ground up restoration on the car with significant money spent around 2016/2017.
