The HQ SS was released in 1972 by Holden as a limited run. The SS was an option package that featured a V8 engine, 4 speed manual transmission, 10 bolt Salisbury 3.36:1 Differential, unique sports interior, stylish body kit, and a louder, higher flowing exhuast over the non SS models. The SS badge was an acronym for "super sport" to suit the sporty feel of the car.

The interior featured a sports dash that included a tachometer and dual split guages for fuel, oil pressure, temperature and voltage as well as a sports steering wheel, centre console and bucket seats trimmed in black vinal.

The exterior featured a stripe and decal kit as well as unique wheels. The HQ SS was available in 3 colours: Lettuce Alone (light green), Infra Red (reddish orange) and Ultraviolet (Purpleish Gunmetal Grey Metallic)

This HQ, built in General Motors' Adelaide Factory rolled off the line in the highly sought after Lettuce Alone Green With a 253ci V8 and M20 4 speed gearbox. The Car has been stripped back for a full restoration and some repairs have been carried out. The car still retains all 3 original tags correlating to the chassis number of the car as well as a Production Report from Holden. This HQ would best suit a collector looking for a project for full restoration and comes with many of the parts needed to put it back together including Interior parts such as the centre console, dash, some seats, some windows. The car also includes a gearbox, 253 V8 motor V8 Diff housing and much more. This shell has been assembled from parts and panels from different cars and many of the original parts are missing. Extensive Repairs and body work have also been carried out to remove rust. Inspections of this vehicle are recommended before placing a bid.
