Very rare genuine E21 JPS Build Number 48 as a running and driving example!

The JPS (John Player Special) brand sponsored the BMW race team in the early 1980s. BMW Australia promoted this sponsorship with a special edition of the current 323i E21 based on the Motorsport Edition. The Motorsport Edition was a local market option comprising of a 5-speed manual gearbox, limited slip differential, Bilstein dampers, Recaro sports seats, sports leather steering wheel, front and rear spoiler and BBS mag wheels. The JPS Edition was a Motorsport Edition ordered in gloss black and then would be sent to BMW team workshops run by Frank Gardner. These workshops would then add the gold stripes, JPS logos, wheel centres anodised gold and a build number plaque fitted. As an option the standard 13" BBS wheels could be replaced by 15" gold Simmons wheels and at a considerable cost the engine could be stroked to 2.7 litres. Initially only 70 JPS Editions were planned however an additional batch was supplied with a total of less than 140 E21 JPS Editions produced.

This build number #48 JPS is an incredibly rare find and was previously on display at the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania. The JPS is a running and driving example, making the two hour trip from where it has been stored to our showroom without issue. Overall the car presents well overall but is certainly no concurs example, making this a perfect example to really drive and enjoy. The JPS will require attention to some problem spots where the paint is starting to bubble from rust, left untreated this will become a larger issue. The car would be a fantastic weekend project that can be driven in the meantime and will certainly bring much joy to the winning bidder. 

Features include 15" period style gold wheels, foglights, factory Recaro seats, air conditioning, 5-speed manual gearbox, factory NO power steer or sunroof, aftermarket head unit, limited slip differential and more.
