Your guide to our Everything Holden auction
Thursday, 23 July 2026 | James Coleman
It's the auction you've been waiting for.
This month, we’re running a special auction devoted purely to Australia’s own car. Whether you're actively shopping or just here to browse misty-eyed through what this country once produced, we’ve put together a solid mix of daily-drivable classics, restoration projects, and rare HSV models.
Bidding closes Wednesday night, 5 August. Until then, here’s a quick run-through of what’s on offer:

1963 Holden EJ Special.
1963 Holden EJ Special
Fast Facts: Mileage unknown | 2.2-litre 6-cylinder, 3-speed automatic | Does not start or run
The floor might have crumbled away in a few spots due to rust, and the bodywork has accumulated its fair share of scrapes and dings over the decades. But this EJ Special's iconic lines are still intact, and it’s wearing with pride what’s left of its Riverina Blue over Atherton Ivory two-tone paint. A true project car for someone ready to do some heavy lifting.

1973 Holden HQ Monaro.
1973 Holden HQ Monaro
Fast Facts: 88,843 km (indicated) | 5.7-litre V8, 4-speed automatic | Runs and drives
So it's not entirely original, but on the plus side, the 5.7-litre LS1 V8 under the bonnet makes considerably more oomph than the factory 5.0-litre ever did. This HQ also packs GTS styling touches - including wheels and badging - and wears that iconic yellow-and-black hero colour scheme. Few cars twang Holden-o-phile heartstrings quite like a well-sorted HQ.

1974 Holden LH Torana.
1974 Holden LH Torana SL/R 5000 Tribute
Fast Facts: 233,861 km | 5.0-litre V8, 4-speed manual | Runs and drives (misfire on idle)
When Holden stuffed a heavy V8 into the mid-sized LH Torana back in '74, it didn't do the handling or braking any favours - not that Aussie buyers cared once they heard the exhaust note. This "Tribute" example replicates the iconic SL/R 5000 look in Chrome Yellow with guard flares, a ducktail spoiler, and custom Recaro seats. Bodywork was handled by Merv Hardimon -a restorer with 40+ years experience and international award cred - and under the bonnet sits a refreshed 308ci V8.

1979 Holden HZ Kingswood.
1979 Holden HZ Kingswood Wagon
Fast Facts: 253,759 km | 3.3-litre 6-cylinder, 3-speed automatic | Runs and drives well
The Kingswood is an absolute staple of Australian motoring history. This particular HZ SL Wagon is an untouched, single-owner country car from inland NSW that was recently given a full service and fluid change to bring it back to healthy running order. It comes with all its original bumps, bruises, and road wear intact, along with those Venetian-style rear-window blinds that define all the best classic wagons.

1984 Holden VK Commodore SL Group 3 Tribute
1984 Holden VK Commodore SL Group 3 Tribute
Fast Facts: 245,373 km | 5.0-litre V8, 4-speed manual | Runs and drives
Before there was HSV, there was HDT - performance Holdens built by Peter Brock himself. This Group 3 Tribute version of the VK Commodore SL captures the HDT magic without the price-tag, and includes significant modifications like a rebuilt 5-litre V8, 4-speed manual gearbox, and limited-slip diff, exhaust work, new brakes and suspension, and what the owner claims is a genuine HDT bodykit and 19-inch Aero wheels. It's not one for shrinking violets.

1987 Holden VL Commodore Executive.
1987 Holden VL Commodore Executive
Fast Facts: 90,023 km | 5.0-litre V8, 3-speed automatic | Runs and drives
It might have started life as a plain-Jane executive family sedan, but there's no missing this VL now. It’s been treated to a ground-up restoration, finished off in burgundy paint and colour-matched 20-inch aftermarket wheels. The updated look is backed by a 5.0-litre V8, lowered suspension, a refreshed original grey cloth interior, and an upgraded Pioneer stereo.

2003 HSV Senator Signature.
2003 HSV VY Senator Signature
Fast Facts: 158,606 km | 5.7-litre V8, 4-speed automatic | Runs and drives well
Early low-volume HSV models that haven't been modified in some way - let alone wrapped around a tree - are getting trickier to find, and the VY Series, only produced over two short years, is no exception. This completely original example is numbered build #96 of 159, and includes the official HSV authentication certificates to prove it.

2011 HSV Senator Signature.
2011 HSV E3 Senator Signature
Fast Facts: 222,718 km | 6.2-litre V8, 6-speed automatic | Engine partially dismantled
A more recent interpretation of the "gentleman's muscle car," this Senator Signature features a naturally aspirated 6.2-litre LS3 V8 and Magnetic Ride Control suspension. That motor is currently partially dismantled, with many of the parts stored in the boot, so it doesn't start or run. But just think of the modifications it's ready for ...
