Introduced in 1976 the E24 6-Series was a replacement for the E9 Coupe, now one of the more collectable BMW's ever produced, and was the first generation for BMW's new Grand Tourer. Built and based around the BMW 5 Series platform the E24 took some styling cues from the E9, but with a addition of a B Pillar. Production would cease in 1989 for the E24, with the 6-Series not making a return until the early 2000's. During the 12 year production time the E24 would see a number of both minor and major updates, and the 635CSI introduction to the model line in 1978. In 1982 the E24 changed platforms over from the previous E12 to the new and improved E28, and with this change also saw a major update to the rest over the car including an array of interior and exterior upgrades as well as new suspension and braking updates and a better rust prevention setup. With constantly updating emission regulations 1987 saw the introduction of a new power-plant in the 635CSI with a higher compression M30B35 with catalytic converters now fitted, giving a boost in performance up to 162kw.

This 1989 635CSI is an incredible find and marks an unbelievable opportunity to secure yourself not only a great example of this Australian delivered Grand Tourer but also a quickly appreciating asset. These have seen significant price increases over the last 18 months with no sign of slowing down and examples such as this come up very rarely. Presented in overall very original condition this 635CSI marks the end of the E24 era and has been very well kept by all three owners since new. Original books with partial history are included, showing the car was sold by Melbourne BMW before quickly making its way to Sydney where it has remained since. The body and paint show some minor scars from over the years as expected with a car of this heritage, but is totally free from rust top to bottom making this a worthy investment. The interior shows some signs of age with the dashboard giving into the harsh Aussie sun, as well as some stains and fading in the headlining. To keep the car presenting well the seats have been re-trimmed to match the original standards, with the remaining interior pieces being left to keep the originality of the car as much as possible. Mechanically the car is also well presented with no signs of any issues, providing a phenomenal drive and performance. The car does run rich on cold start, consistent with the vehicle being in storage and would benefit from a good long drive and weekly trips.

This 635CSI provides an incredible chance to own an true German Grand Tourer and a quickly appreciating BMW asset. Ideal for someone looking to do some tinkering on the weekends while still enjoying the driving pleasure this stunning classic provides, and an ideal choice for club events and weekend runs.
